MAH: The 21st Century and Sustainable Fashion
Share
As we move into the 21st century, sustainability has become a key consideration in fashion materials, with a focus on reducing environmental impact and improving ethical practices.
Sustainable Fabrics: From Recycled Materials to Plant-Based Textiles
With growing awareness of environmental issues, the fashion industry has turned its attention to sustainable fabrics. Organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, and recycled polyester are being used to create eco-friendly clothing. These materials aim to reduce the environmental footprint of fashion, from farming practices to production and disposal.
Plant-based fibers like Tencel (made from wood pulp) and Piñatex (made from pineapple leaves) have also gained attention for their eco-friendly properties. In addition, the rise of bio-fabrication—such as lab-grown leather and mushroom leather—offers the potential for fashion to move away from animal-derived materials, further reducing the industry's environmental impact.
