FTAG: The Style of the 2010s
Share
The 2010s marked a significant shift in fashion toward individuality, sustainability, and the fusion of streetwear and luxury. It was a decade where fashion became more accessible, thanks to the rise of social media, fast fashion, and the blurring of boundaries between high-end and everyday styles.
For Women: Athleisure, Boho Revival, and Street Style
The 2010s were dominated by the athleisure trend, with women embracing yoga pants, leggings, oversized hoodies, and sneakers as part of their everyday wear. This trend, which blurred the line between workout gear and casual wear, became a wardrobe staple for many.
The boho chic look also saw a revival, with flared jeans, suede fringed jackets, maxi dresses, and wide-brimmed hats taking inspiration from the 70s. Meanwhile, street style took over, with fashion influencers and celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Rihanna popularizing streetwear brands like Off-White, Supreme, and Balenciaga.
For Men: Streetwear, Tech-Savvy Fashion, and Normcore
The 2010s were all about streetwear for men, with hoodies, sneakers, distressed jeans, and graphic t-shirts becoming daily staples. Brands like Supreme, Fear of God, and Yeezy saw a massive surge in popularity, making streetwear a dominant force in mainstream fashion.
At the same time, the techwear movement grew, with futuristic fabrics, utility vests, and sneakers with technological features entering the market. In contrast, normcore (a term that emerged in the early 2010s) brought plain, basic styles to the forefront, with dad jeans, plain t-shirts, and trainers offering an ironic take on style.
